  1. The 9th EuroDIG met at the Square \u2013 Brussels Meeting Centre in Brussels, Belgium, on 9\u201310 June 2016: over 600 participants \u2014 a record at the time \u2014 under the theme "Embracing the digital (r)evolution."<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Hosted in the heart of the EU, it drew Commission Vice-President Andrus Ansip, Commissioner G\u00fcnther Oettinger and Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbj\u00f8rn Jagland. Privacy and surveillance, IoT, Internet fragmentation and the IANA transition topped the agenda, distilled into the Messages from Brussels.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. On day one, the U.S. government announced its approval of the IANA stewardship transition proposal \u2014 a historic turning point in who runs the Internet's core resources, absorbed in real time by Europe's dialogue. The 'privacy as competitiveness' line previewed here became the GDPR.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
